Why Silhouette matters?

WHY SILHOUETTE MATTERS?
THIS IS MORE THAN THEATRE
Young people come to Silhouette to sing, act, dance, create and perform.
But ask them — or the people who know them best — what really happens here, and they talk about something else.
Confidence. Friendship. Belonging. Bravery. Being heard. Being themselves.
THE DIFFERENCE THEY TELL US WE MAKE
93%
feel welcome
93%
increased confidence
84%
helped make friendships
70%
supported wellbeing
Behind every percentage is a young person.
“Silhouette has changed my life. It has boosted my confidence, made me push myself, helped me get to know people from different backgrounds and is my second home.”

DIFFERENT VOICES. THE SAME STORY.
YOUNG PEOPLE
“Everyone has a place to grow and belong.”
FAMILIES
“I never thought she would have the confidence…”
SCHOOLS
“Everyone had a chance to shine.”
PEOPLE WE WORK WITH
“The real stars of the day were the students.”

NOT EVERY SUCCESS HAPPENS ON STAGE.
Sometimes success is playing the lead.
Sometimes it is singing the solo.
Sometimes it is standing in front of an audience for the first time.
Sometimes it is joining a group when joining groups is difficult.
And sometimes the biggest achievement of all is simply feeling safe enough to walk through the door again next week.
“I have a child who on a bad day won’t even speak to our closest family and friends. Yet she entered your class with a confidence that exceeded my wildest dreams.”
PARENT
And when she is ready to perform, it will happen in her own time.
That matters to us.
SOMETIMES ONE SENTENCE SAYS EVERYTHING.
“The children in school were buzzing.”
“A night they will never forget.”
“This usually slightly shy boy came out of his shell.”
“It brought the school back to life.”
“It was the best day ever.”
BRING THE JOY
Sometimes the impact looks like a coach full of young people still singing the songs on the journey home or debating a production.
Sometimes it is a young person arriving home excited about the session that they have just been part of.
Sometimes it is a classroom asking:
“CAN WE DO THAT AGAIN?”
Sometimes it is simply seeing a young person’s face light up in a session.
WE EXPECT A LOT FROM OUR YOUNG PEOPLE AND THEY CAN EXPECT A LOT FROM US!
BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THEY ARE CAPABLE OF GREAT THINGS.
One visitor came to a Silhouette production unsure how young people would deal with challenging material.
“It just goes to show that the more we expect, the more we get.”
They noticed young people welcoming the audience, introducing the work, leading the evening and supporting one another.
“A sense of being part of something special.”

EVERY STORY STARTS SOMEWHERE.
The confident performer.
The young person taking the lead.
The child making new friends.
The teenager discovering their voice.
The person brave enough to share an idea.
The young person who finally feels they belong.
None of them started there.
They started with a first session.
Maybe yours starts here.
